HoosierNation is reporting that Coach Crean has recently visited Maurice Sutton at his home in Maryland. The 6-10 recruit is set to visit Bloomington next weekend and may have the Hoosiers at the top of his list. Sutton had a huge senior season averaging 18 points 12 boards and 9 blocks.
Now those are some pretty impressive stats but to be honest I haven't been to high on Sutton. From what I have read, Sutton appears to be a project. At 6-10 Sutton weighs in at only 210lbs and that really isn't going to cut it in the big ten. With our current roster we need somebody that can come in and play right away, which I don't see happening. The thing that really impresses me is the 9 blocks a game. I like that kind of defensive prowess.
As most of you probably know things have just recently changed with the apparent loss of Holman. It was reported by Hoosier Scoop that Holman got extremely angry during a meeting with Coach Crean and the police were called. This changes my perspective a little bit on Sutton. We need size and we need it NOW. My only real concern is that Sutton is only a three star recruit and he is a four year player. He doesn't really fill an immediate need in the frontcourt because he wont be able to play right away. I think that the better route would be to get a JUCO player that could come in and play right away and would only hold a scholarship for two years. This way when the program is on the upswing we will have a scholarship to offer to higher quality players.
Hopefully if Sutton does commit, Crean will work his magic and turn him into a very productive four year player for the Hoosiers.
ESPN.com is reporting DeAndre Thomas will also not be back with the team.
