Hooiser Scoop and Basket Blog are reporting Eli Holman will not be attending Indiana University anymore. He had a meeting with Coach Crean that ended in the police being called to the scene. No one was arrested, but the police did take Holman's Statement. The meeting was supposed to be about Eli's future, but became violent when Eli picked up a flower pot and threw it. Eli has had anger problems in the past, as he was suspended a full year when he pushed a referee during his junior year of high school. Obviously Eli still has anger management issues that he needs to take care of. But since I do not know him, and have never met him, I don't feel like it is appropriate to discuss that matter too much.
So what does this mean for IU's basketball team next year? An already depleted front court has become even more depleted with Eli's departure. The front court for next year currently consists of Deandre Thomas, Kyle Taber and Tom Pritchard. The front court is a huge problem because all three players have their limitations. Dre can't stay on the court for more than 10 minutes at a time, while Taber gives you maximum effort and is what being a Hoosier is all about, he is a major liability because he can't or won't hit a shot beyond 8 feet and Pritchard is a freshman, and no one knows what we are going to be getting from him.
IU is rumored to be the leader for Sean Sutton a 6'10, three star big from Maryland who is in the Eli Holman mold. Look for an update to come shortly on Sutton. Eli's case is quite upsetting, he barely got out of Richmond, CA alive (he was shot in a drive by months before he came to bloomington), has not been able to play basketball for the majority of three years and now this incident. We wish Eli the best, and hope he can get his life straightened out.
